Not everyone is born with naturally thick, filled-in eyebrows, and now, you don’t have to be. With board-certified plastic surgeon Kim Edward Koger, M.D., F.A.C.S., residents in and around Jupiter, Wellington, Vero Beach and Palm Beach County can add volume, color and density to their eyebrows for a naturally stunning look that complements their facial features.
What is Microblading?
Microblading is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that uses a specialized tattooing technique to provide a semi-permanent solution to thin, sparse eyebrows. Not only does microblading fill in bare areas of the brow with pigment, but the technique also calls for each tattoo to resemble a single strand of hair, resulting in natural-looking, thick brows. Each microblading treatment lasts anywhere from one to three years depending on your skin type and skincare routine.
The Microblading Procedure
The microblading procedure itself is a two-part process. During your first appointment, our esthetician will talk to you about what you can expect during your treatment and discuss with you your desired results. Before microblading begins, the area will be numbed with a topical anesthetic cream to help with any discomfort. Once numb, our esthetician will begin using a handheld manual blade to etch individual strokes of “hair” into the top three layers of your skin. The whole process should take about an hour to complete. The second part of your procedure is a follow-up appointment in six to eight weeks to ensure you’re healing properly and fill in any light patches.
You’ll be able to see the results of your microblading treatment immediately following your appointment; however, it will take about 30 days to see the true color and definition of your brows. For the first few days following your microblading treatment, your brows will be dark, bold and sharp. Mild redness and swelling is also normal. Within the first week, you may start to notice some mild flaking as the skin begins to heal. It is important not to pick at your eyebrows during this time, as you may cause a loss of pigment in certain areas. Dr. Koger recommends you avoid submerging your face in water and applying makeup to your brows until they are fully healed.
How Long Does Microblading Last?
Microblading is a semi-permanent solution for thin, sparse brows. The results of your microblading treatment should last anywhere between one and three years depending on your skin type and skincare routine. Dr. Koger suggests coming in to touch-up your brows every 12 to 18 months to maintain optimal results. This touch-up session takes less time than an initial session to complete and refreshes your brows to keep them looking full and bold.
