What Are IPL® Treatments?

- IPL® Photofacial
IPL® photofacial can give your complexion a youthful appearance by revitalizing your face, neck and hands, using intense pulses of light directed at the skin’s surface. The light breaks up blemishes to improve your skin’s texture and tone. More effective than microdermabrasion and chemical peels, this procedure requires virtually no downtime.
This IPL® treatment can rid you of facial spider veins and other benign lesions that might cause you to feel insecure or self-conscious. This procedure is non-surgical and requires no needles or compression wrapping. Multiple treatments may be necessary to bring about your desired results.
- IPL® Hair Removal
Using the Star-Lux IPL® permanent hair reduction system, Dr. Koger can help you get rid of excessive or unwanted body hair. This unique system emits intense pulses of light (IPL®) directed at hair follicles, disabling them from future growth. This procedure requires no downtime, but multiple treatments may be necessary to achieve desired results.
The Best Candidates for IPL® Treatments
If you suffer from irregular skin pigmentation, such as sun-damaged skin, freckles or age spots, or simply wish to reduce large pores or the appearance of spider or varicose veins, you may be a candidate for IPL® treatment. Dr. Koger will prepare your skin by cooling it down using a soft, cold gel. Then, with the help of a hand-held instrument, Dr. Koger will direct broad spectrum light into the tissues underneath your skin. This treatment is relatively pain-free, but a topical anesthetic may be available if you feel some discomfort. Multiple treatments may be needed depending on your expectations and personalized procedure. This is an outpatient procedure that only takes about 30 minutes or less.
After Your IPL® Treatment
You can expect your skin to appear pink or a light red color, and possibly experience some swelling. However, you will be able to return home right after your treatment and wear makeup to cover up any redness. You can also expect to return to work immediately if you wish. Be aware that your skin will be sensitive to the sun and that you should wear sunblock if you plan to be outside.
