Chin Augmentation in Jupiter, FL

Many people underestimate the role of the chin in facial balance, but the size and shape of your chin can affect how well your nose, lips, eyes, and cheeks stand out to others. Chin augmentation is a cosmetic procedure that changes the size and shape of your chin.

About chin augmentation

If you need only an implant to round out your chin, then during your procedure a cut is made, either inside the mouth or outside under the chin. A pocket is created in front of the chin bone and under the muscles. The implant is placed inside. Dr. Koger will assure your comfort during surgery. You may be under general anesthesia (asleep and pain-free), or you may get medicine to numb the area, along with a medicine that will make you relaxed and sleepy. For the implant, Dr. Koger may use real bone; fat tissue; an implant made out of silicone, Teflon™ or Dacron®; or newer biological implants, all of which are usually inserted and attached to the bone with sutures or screws.

Dr. Koger may also recommend the need to move some bones to achieve more optimal results, in which case the procedure will likely be under general anesthesia, and Dr. Koger will make a cut inside your mouth along the lower gum. This gives the surgeon access to the chin bone. The jaw bone is moved and wired or screwed in place. Dr. Koger closes the incision with stitches and a bandage. Because the surgery is performed inside your mouth, you will not see any scars.

Before and After

Chin Augmentation Case 1

Benefits of chin augmentation

The primary benefit of chin augmentation is enhancing facial proportions.

Candidates for chin augmentation

Ideal candidates for chin augmentation have an underdeveloped chin. This may be most obvious from a profile view.

Planning your chin augmentation

If you want to balance the appearance of your face by making your chin longer or bigger compared to your nose, or if you have a weak or receding chin, also known as microgenia (but an otherwise normal bite), then you are potentially an ideal candidate for chin augmentation. Schedule your complimentary consultation now. Together with Dr. Koger, you can plan your chin implant surgery and get the look that you deserve with a strong or more graceful chin.

Where your chin augmentation is performed

Chin augmentation is performed in a surgical suite on an outpatient basis. Someone should drive you home after the procedure because you will have some residual effects of the anesthesia.

Type of anesthesia for your chin augmentation

Many chin augmentation procedures are performed with only local anesthesia, but this depends on the extent of the procedure. You may need general anesthesia for your chin augmentation.

After your chin augmentation

After the procedure, your chin and lower jaw are wrapped with a compression bandage to help with swelling and hold the tissues in place. Your chin will feel tight sue to the implant. Dr. Koger provides detailed instructions for aftercare before you leave the surgical suite.

Getting back to normal after chin augmentation

Your recovery should be smooth and easy, though you may feel some discomfort and soreness initially. It is also possible that you may feel some numbness in your chin area for a number of weeks, but most swelling should completely dissipate within six weeks after your surgery. The day of your surgery, you can resume light activity and within a week you will be able to resume normal work activities, though for the first four to six weeks following your surgery you will be asked to wear a brace while you are sleeping to ensure a proper recovery.

Your new look after chin augmentation

You may be surprised with how chin augmentation improves your appearance. Many people find that their noses look smaller, their cheeks are more pronounced, and their eyes are more alert.

Paying for your chin augmentation
